Biotome Files International Patent Application for Peplock Biomolecule Anchoring Platform

Biotome has filed an international patent application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) relating to Peplock, its surface-binding peptide platform for stable biomolecule immobilisation on solid surfaces.

Peplock addresses a persistent challenge in diagnostics, biosensors, and surface-based biology: how to attach biomolecules to solid supports while preserving how those molecules function once bound. The platform uses compact peptide anchor elements to immobilise a wide range of cargoes, including peptides, proteins, antibodies, enzymes, and other functional biomolecules.

The PCT filing marks an important milestone in Biotome's development of Peplock across assay surfaces, beads, membranes, sensor surfaces, and industrial-scale formats.

"We are building practical innovations that turn strong biological insight into dependable tools," said Samuel Lundin, CEO and Founder of Biotome. "Peplock delivers robust attachment and better functional presentation of biomolecules, without reliance on complex multi-step chemistry."

Peplock has potential applications in immunoassays, peptide serology, biosensors, industrial enzyme immobilisation, and antimicrobial or antifouling surfaces. Biotome is continuing to develop the platform with a focus on practical use cases where reliable biomolecule attachment can improve performance, reproducibility, and ease of implementation.

"Peplock compresses a lot of interface engineering into a short peptide element," said Luke Marshall, CTO and lead inventor at Biotome. "It can be made synthetically, attached chemically, or built into recombinant proteins. And it is surprisingly hard to remove: acid, salt, detergents; the anchor really locks on."

The patent application names Luke Marshall, Paige Bebee, and Samuel Lundin as inventors.

Biotome welcomes conversations with partners exploring biomolecule attachment challenges across diagnostics, biosensing, and applied biotechnology.
